Sometimes it's more responsible to just close a restaurant.

We were in Page over Thanksgiving and thought at least we would go out for a meal in the evening. I found that El Tapieta had good reviews and phoned them up to ask if they were open. they said. "Yes" but when we got there a notice on the door said they were closed for Thanksgiving. Therefore we went to the Glen Canyon Steak House. My husband spend $20 on the buffet and I got a vegi-burger with fries for $12. Both were grossly over-priced. The turkey was tinned dark meat, chopped up and so highly salted it was virtually inedible. The green beans were cold and tinned and in a dark water. He tried some pasta salad which had giant pieces of white onion in it. The pie was one of the Walmart pies I had seen in the morning when we were at Walmart, therefore half-way edible. There was strange glutinous mac and cheese. My husband tipped the waiter because he tips everyone because he is such a nice guy. I am a foreign-born American so Thanksgiving has never been a big deal for me. However, as soon as we got off the plane, after flying back, I bought every single Thanksgiving ingredient possible, stopping on the trip back from the airport. I remembered from way back all the recipes my, now 86 year old, mother in England used to cook for Christmas. I made them all. I spent a couple of hours cooking the meal we should have had. This is the most memorable meal I have ever had while traveling. Finally, much of the world doesn't have enough to eat. I thank God I do and I thank God we had enough to eat that night.

My husband and I walked into this restaurant for dinner because the one we wanted to eat in was full, and Glen Canyon Steak House has a prominent position on the main road in the middle of Page. There was only one other couple there - suspicious in itself considering Page is a popular tourist destination. Although apprehensive, as the place was grubby with tape holding together some of the seating in the booths, we ordered Martinis; one vodka, the other gin. Quite sometime later, the drinks came, but the proportions of spirit and vermouth were the wrong way round. Yuck! We complained and the waitress asked us if we would like the proportions to be more like 50:50! And they claim to have a cocktail bar on the external sign! Although we had already ordered burgers, we decided not to stay and eat them in case the chef was as incompetent as the person who prepared the drinks, and we walked out. It was our last night before flying home and we didn't want to risk getting food poisoning. Avoid this place. You have been warned.
